PlateRep for iOS

Most answers are below. If yours isn't here, write to info@destekbilisim.net and include your iPhone model and iOS version — it makes problems much faster to trace.

Meal scanning

How accurate is it?

It is an estimate, and the app says so on every result. Recognising what a food is works reasonably well; judging how much of it is on the plate is the hard part, and portion size is where most of the error comes from. Tap any detected food to correct the serving, the calories or the macros before you save. Your correction always wins.

It says a scan needs an internet connection

Scanning is the only feature that needs to be online. Logging meals by hand, water, weight, workouts, history and charts all work offline.

Nothing was detected in my photo

Get the whole plate in frame, fill more of the picture with the food, and avoid harsh shadows or steep angles. Packaging, menus and screens generally don't scan well. You can always add the meal manually instead.

How many free scans do I get?

Three in total on the free tier, not three per day. A scan is only counted when it actually returns a result, so a failed or empty scan costs you nothing. Premium removes the limit.

Are my food photos stored?

No, unless you switch on Keep this photo on the result screen, which is off by default. The photo is sent for analysis and then discarded. Details are in the Privacy Policy.

Barcode scanning

The product wasn't found

Barcode lookups use Open Food Facts, a free community database. It's large but not complete, and regional products are often missing. When a code isn't found, add the food manually — and if you'd like, contribute the product to Open Food Facts so the next person finds it.

The nutrition looks wrong

Open Food Facts entries are contributed by volunteers, so a figure can be out of date or mistyped. Every value stays editable before you save the meal.

Does scanning a barcode need internet?

Yes — the lookup is a web request. Manual entry works offline.

Subscriptions

Managing or cancelling

Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so they're managed in your Apple Account rather than in PlateRep: open the iOS Settings app, tap your name, then Subscriptions. You can also reach the same screen from Profile → Manage inside the app. Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends to avoid the next charge.

Deleting the app doesn't cancel it

An active subscription keeps renewing after the app is deleted. Cancel it in Settings first.

I paid but Premium isn't active

Open Profile and tap Restore. That asks the App Store to re-check your purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the Apple Account you bought with. If it still doesn't unlock, email us.

Refunds

Refunds are issued by Apple, not by us. Use reportaproblem.apple.com.

Apple Health

Connecting Health is optional. PlateRep reads your step count and active energy to show them on the home screen, and writes the weight and water entries you log so they show up in Health.

iOS only ever shows the Health permission sheet once per install. To change what's shared afterwards, open the Health app → Sharing → Apps → PlateRep. If the Profile row says "No data yet", it usually means read access is off there, or your iPhone simply has no step data for today.

Reminders

Water, meal and workout reminders are scheduled on your device by iOS. They are off until you turn them on in Profile → Reminders, and iOS will ask for notification permission the first time.

If reminders never arrive, check iOS Settings → Notifications → PlateRep, and make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb isn't silencing them.

Your data

Where is it kept?

In files on your iPhone. There is no account and no copy on a server.

Moving to a new iPhone

Restore the new phone from an iCloud or computer backup and your PlateRep data comes with it. There is no cloud sync, so installing the app fresh on a second device starts empty.

Deleting everything

Profile → Delete all data clears every meal, workout, water and weight entry. It can't be undone. Deleting the app removes the data too.

Changing my targets

Profile → Daily targets lets you set calories and macros by hand. Profile → Your details recalculates them from your body data and goal. Every target is an estimate from a general formula, not personal advice.

Units and appearance

Profile → Units switches between lb/ft and kg/cm; everything already logged converts automatically. Profile → Appearance cycles System, Light and Dark.

Something isn't working

Try closing and reopening the app first. If a problem persists, email info@destekbilisim.net with what you did, what you expected, and what happened instead. Screenshots help.

Health and safety

PlateRep is a logging tool, not a medical device, and it does not give medical or nutritional advice. If you are pregnant, managing a health condition, taking medication, or under 18, talk to a qualified professional before changing how you eat or train. If tracking food is making your relationship with eating worse, please step away from the app and speak to someone who can help.
